The Challenge
Life Library is a purpose-driven app designed to help people living with memory loss or dementia share, store, and revisit cherished life stories. We were tasked with creating the interface design for the app - translating a powerful concept and a tehnical vision into an engaging digital experience that could bring the vision to life and connect with its audience.
The key challenge was to design an accessible and emotionally resonant digital platform that supported users with cognitive or sensory impairments, while also bringing the brand identity to life in a warm, trustworthy way.
Our Approach
We began with digital workshops to deeply understand the needs of Life Library’s core audiences: people with memory loss, their families and carers. Mapping these journeys highlighted critical accessibility priorities, such as high colour contrast, clear navigation and simplified content structures.
We benchmarked the platform against WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, reviewed competitor offerings, and assessed usability to ensure the new solution would be inclusive. From these insights, we developed a design strategy rooted in empathy - aligning brand values with practical digital functionality.
Impact
The redesigned platform transformed Life Library into an engaging, inclusive space. Navigation was simplified to reduce cognitive load, while a warm colour palette and carefully chosen typography created familiarity and comfort. Users now interact with the app more intuitively, with story submissions rising by 28% post‑launch and average session duration increasing by 35%.
Feedback from families and carers highlighted the platform’s role in fostering conversation, helping Life Library achieve its goal of turning technology into a bridge for human connection.
